ENERGY PRODUCTION AND STORAGE MATERIALS

The world needs new, sustainable, and affordable routes to produce and store electrical energy. Thin-film photovoltaic (PV) cells of different types, including organic and perovskite, are renewable energy sources if the optimal photoactive/charge-carrying materials are optimized/discovered. Concomitantly, batteries are focus of considerable research activities due to their key role in conventional consumer electronic products and electric vehicles as well as for novel applications in flexible/stretchable smart cards, mobile sensors, smart clothes, and e-skin. In all these technologies, the reliance on critical raw materials and/or the relatively poor battery performance on deformable platforms represent major bottlenecks. In this research area our group is interested in key aspects of photovoltaic and battery materials science and technology.
